Well, it was fun while it lasted.
For one week, the All-22 film displayed a New York Jets team overflowing with potential despite a nail-biting loss.
Every ounce of that hope disappeared in an embarrassing performance against the Buffalo Bills.
Jets fans at MetLife Stadium received almost nothing to cheer about over four quarters of uncompetitive football. New York was outgained by nearly 250 yards on an afternoon where the team was outclassed in every single facet. The stadium was empty early in the fourth quarter.
Head coach Aaron Glenn will turn to the film in search of answers. When Glenn, offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, and defensive coordinator Steve Wilks flip on the tape, they will see three prevailing themes.
One, the revamped coaching staff was severely out-coached. As good as they looked against Pittsburgh’s veteran staff in Week 1, the Jets had circles coached around them in Week 2. Buffalo had the right answer for everything New York called on both sides of the ball.
Two, the players’ effort was iffy at best. As the game got out of hand, it can be seen that multiple players – including one who signed a lucrative free agent contract – began taking their foot off the gas pedal.
Three, the technique was even worse than the effort. Countless times, Jets players committed technical blunders that should never have happened if they had properly studied and prepared for what Buffalo likes to do.
What went wrong? Well, spoiler alert: Everything. But who were the worst offenders? And how can the Jets get things on track before the season goes off the rails?
We’re here to answer those questions in the latest Blewett’s Blitz film review.
We break down the most critical takeaways from the Jets-Bills film in the newest edition of Blewett’s Blitz.
