We are almost a month out from the NFL trade deadline (November 4), and the New York Jets are in a very difficult situation.
After their 27-21 loss to the Miami Dolphins, Gang Green is off to a disappointing 0-4 start to begin the season. Under new head coach Aaron Glenn, many of the same problems that have plagued the Jets in previous years have continued into 2025.
New York has four games left before the trade deadline. Many of its players are in the final year of their current deals.
If the losing streak doesn’t end soon, the Jets will be left with no alternative: They must sell.
Jets’ deadline concerns
What has been particularly concerning for New York is that the losses are mounting despite several key pieces performing well to begin the season.
Running back Breece Hall is averaging 4.6 yards per carry, his best mark since his rookie season. Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is also off to a hot start, being ranked as the league’s No. 3 defensive tackle according to Pro Football Focus.
On the other end of the spectrum, Williams’ brother Quincy is currently on injured reserve with a shoulder injury as he plays out the final year of his contract. While he should be back before the deadline, his future with New York is clouded.
Hall and Quincy Williams are among several Jets starters with expiring contracts. At their best, Hall and Williams are some of the top players at their positions. If the losing continues and the Jets can get quality draft capital for either player, it would behoove the team to prepare for the future with a loaded draft class coming up.
2026 NFL Draft: Should Fernando Mendoza be in NY Jets’ sights? For some Jets fans, that would be unthinkable. It can be frustrating to see a team trade away assets that will need to be replaced in the future, especially in the first year of a new coaching staff.
But the team is 0-4. As much as the fanbase may want to see star players remain on the team, the results aren’t changing with them on the roster. And if they don’t change soon, an all-out fire sale may need to be considered.
