To make it through life as a New York Jets fan, you must learn to laugh through the pain. The only other option is a cursed existence of incessant suffering.
One Jets fan is making sure that his newborn son understands that mindset from the get-go.
In a video shared to TikTok (@vitulls), the Jets fan in question, who can be found on X/Twitter at the handle @TheNastyNelson, reads his child a helmet-shaped book that teaches the ins and outs of Jets history and the rules of football.
“We haven’t won the Super Bowl since 1968. And it’s 2025, the year you were born,” he quips.
The fan also made sure to prepare his son for the gargantuan air conditioner that awaits him on Sundays.
“This is the worst stadium in all of the NFL,” he says, as the book displays a two-page image of MetLife Stadium.
On the pages explaining the rules of football, the fan went out of his way to contextualize how those rules apply to the Jets.
“Extra points are one, field goals are three, touchdowns are six. We don’t get a lot of touchdowns. We give up a lot of touchdowns.”
Fortunately, the young Jets fan might be entering the world at the right time to grow alongside his new favorite team. As his dad points out, “We win the game in the trenches. We have a really good O-line right now.”
It’s true; offensive tackles Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou are thriving. The two former first-round picks, who are only 23 and 21 years old, respectively, provide a foundation that the Jets can build upon to create a formidable offense for the young fan to watch throughout his elementary school years.
They just need a quarterback.
“Our quarterback stinks. Hopefully we’re drafting one this year,” says the dad.
Just about every Jets fan would agree wholeheartedly with that statement.
