Just one day after parting ways with offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, the New York Jets have begun their search for a fresh OC.
On Wednesday evening, the Jets announced a first round of interviews for the role, which included five candidates.
Here is the list:
- Darell Bevell, Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach and pass-game coordinator
- Ronald Curry, Buffalo Bills quarterbacks coach
- Frank Reich, former Carolina Panthers head coach
- Greg Roman, former Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator
- Lunda Wells, Dallas Cowboys tight ends coach
Bevell, 56, has had four stints as an NFL offensive coordinator, most notably with the Seattle Seahawks, where he helped lead the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2013.
Over the past two seasons, Curry has served as the Bills’ quarterbacks coach, following a two-year stint as the New Orleans Saints’ QBs coach and pass-game coordinator. While he has not served as a play-caller, the 46-year-old has learned under Joe Brady, one of the NFL’s best offensive coordinators over the past two seasons and now the Bills’ head coach.
Among the names on this list, Reich is the most experienced. He has had two stints as an NFL OC and head coach, while spending the 2025 season as Stanford’s head coach, leading the Cardinal to a 4-8 record, their best mark since 2020. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, league sources “handicap” Reich as the favorite to win the job.
Similar to Reich, Roman brings a wealth of experience. While his two-year run as the Los Angeles Chargers’ OC wasn’t inspiring, he has a proven track record of developing quarterbacks. Under his watch in Baltimore as the Ravens’ OC, he helped turn Lamar Jackson into one of the league’s best quarterbacks, with the Louisville product winning his first MVP under Roman’s watch. Roman is known as one of the NFL’s best run-game designers.
Wells was the only known candidate to have received an interview prior to New York’s announcement. Since 2020, he has been with the Dallas Cowboys, serving as the team’s tight end coach.
Under Wells, Dalton Schultz and Jake Ferguson, two fourth-round draft picks, blossomed into reliable pass-catchers for Dak Prescott. In 2025, Ferguson’s eight receiving touchdowns were tied for the fourth most among TEs.
Prior to his time in Dallas, Wells spent eight seasons with the New York Giants (2012-19) in several roles, which included tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach.
It appears the Jets’ search for Engstrand’s replacement is off to a fast start.
