Free agency has been eventful for the New York Jets.
The team has made a surplus of excellent moves in the market’s opening waves, addressing several key needs. At the same time, Gang Green has watched plenty of their own players depart for a fresh start.
This time, New York has watched a second defender reunite with their former head coach, Robert Saleh.
Over two weeks after acquiring defensive end Jermaine Johnson from the Jets, Saleh and the Tennessee Titans are bringing in another player from Saleh’s New York days. Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, former Jets safety Tony Adams has signed a one-year deal with the Titans.
Adams signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
He spent four seasons with the team, carving out a nice run for a UDFA, playing in 53 games (36 starts) while logging 232 combined tackles (137 solo), 16 pass deflections, two sacks, and four interceptions.
However, the 2025 season was rough for the Illinois product. After making his fourth start for one of the league’s worst defenses, Adams was benched due to his continued struggles.
While tackling has notoriously been an issue for the 27-year-old throughout his professional career, his woes reached new heights in 2025, as the safety’s missed-tackle rate skyrocketed to 15.5%, a career high.
Despite that, though, he remains a serviceable player in slot coverage. Last season, when covering the slot, Adams allowed three of the eight passes thrown in his direction (37.5%) to be completed for just 10 yards across 29 snaps.
Now, Adams gets an opportunity to rebound in Tennessee under the coach who gave him his first chance in the league.
