OTAs kicked off for the New York Jets on Wednesday, with many fans excited to see the team’s draft class on the practice field against NFL-level players for the first time.

However, one of the Jets’ three first-round selections, tight end Kenyon Sadiq, will not be in action throughout OTAs.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said that Sadiq had a “minor procedure” to repair a hernia, which will leave him sidelined. However, he added that the team was aware of his condition before the draft and that he would be ready for training camp.

Sadiq was selected by New York at No. 16 overall after a historic showing at the NFL’s Scouting Combine skyrocketed him up draft boards. He ran the fastest forty-yard dash by a tight end in combine history at 4.39 seconds, along with a 43.5-inch vertical jump.

At Oregon last season, Sadiq reeled in 42 of his 54 targets for 509 yards and eight touchdowns, which led all FBS tight ends. He is expected to emerge as one of Geno Smith’s top options in 2026 while being able to play alongside fellow TE Mason Taylor, whom the team selected in the second round of last year’s draft.

Ultimately, the injury doesn’t seem like anything serious. It is smart for the Jets to keep him sidelined during OTAs and not force him onto the field, which could have potentially caused a setback.

Glenn also announced that kicker Cade York is out with a groin injury this week, which could have played a role in the organization’s decision to sign Younghoe Koo on Wednesday.
