There is more movement in the New York Jets’ kicking competition.
Two days after releasing Lenny Krieg, the team is making another move at kicker, releasing Younghoe Koo and signing Jason Sanders, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
Koo signed with the Jets last Wednesday, but, as evidenced by their decision to release him, he wasn’t up to snuff throughout OTAs.
During Tuesday’s OTAs, which were open to the media, Koo reportedly missed a 53-yarder badly while also shanking a 45-yarder. Cade York, whom the Jets signed this offseason and who is the other kicker on the team’s roster, hit both of those attempts.
Now, to compete with York, the Jets are bringing in Sanders, who was just released by the New York Giants. In 116 NFL games throughout seven NFL seasons (all of which were with the Miami Dolphins), Sanders owns a career field goal percentage of 84.6% and an extra point conversion rate of 96.6%.
Beyond 50 yards, he has hit 33 of his 48 tries (68.8%), with a long of 57. He last kicked in 2024 with the Dolphins, converting 90.2% of his attempts (37 of 41), with two misses from 40-49 yards and the other two from 50+.
Sanders didn’t kick in 2025 due to a severe hip injury he sustained last preseason.
Now, he is fully healthy and looking to win the Jets’ wide-open kicking competition against Cade York, a fourth-round pick from the 2022 NFL draft, who has played with six different teams since entering the league.
