Jermaine Johnson calls upon New York Jets fans

One of the New York Jets‘ potential breakout stars is asking fans for help to name his increasingly popular sack celebration.

Since joining the Jets last year, Florida State product Jermaine Johnson has broken out a sack celebration in which he does a slamming motion, similar to swinging a hammer.

The celebration caught on with fans quickly and has already expanded outside of Johnson. Jared Verse, another Florida State edge rusher, used the celebration against LSU on Monday after asking Johnson for permission.

With all of the buzz surrounding the celebration, Johnson posted a poll on Monday morning asking Jets fans to vote on what the celebration should be called.

While all could be considered great name options (my personal favorite is Seminole Smash), the vote is currently a close one with just under a day left. Seminole Smash and Hammer Down are extremely close, with the former having 32.7 percent of the vote and the latter having 31 percent of the vote.

J Hammer and Ragnolerok are not completely out of it yet, having 22.9 and 13.5 percent of the votes, respectively.

No matter what the celebration is called, it is a cool gesture for Johnson to ask Jets fans to name his signature celebration. And if Johnson performs at the level he showed in the preseason, the celebration will become a household name quickly.

In just four preseason games, Johnson had two sacks, one quarterback hit, and three hurries – giving him six total pressures. Doing all of that on just 30 pass-rush snaps, Johnson looked like an unfair matchup for his opponents. He appears to have made significant progress this offseason and is poised for a breakout year.

Now that the preseason is in the books, Johnson is solely focused on the Buffalo Bills.
