Geno Smith is looking to get back on the right track โ€” with the New York Jets โ€” in 2026.

The promising part for Jets fans is that he certainly has the ability to be the best quarterback the franchise has seen in quite some time.

Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich has gotten his first look at Smith on the practice field throughout the organization’s offseason program for the past eight to 10 weeks, and he has been beyond impressed.

“I am just so impressed with Geno, I cannot express that enough. I know we haven’t played in games yet, but we’ve got a long way to go. We got a lot to prove, and everybody’s got a lot to prove. But man, he is on point,” said Reich on Wednesday.

As we broke down, Reich, Smith, and the Jets’ WR1, Garrett Wilson, all align with each other perfectly, which is a massive positive for Gang Green entering the 2026 season.

The chances of Smith bouncing back under Reich are high, largely because Smith’s strengths align with Reich’s historic play-calling tendencies. To boot, the Jets have a far stronger offense than the Las Vegas Raiders did last year.

Their offensive line is stronger, Smith will have more passing-catching options, and, arguably, most importantly, he should have a competent play-caller.

It remains unknown if Geno Smith has just lost his step or actually has a chance to return to his Seattle Seahawks form. If he is going to bounce back, though, the New York Jets, the organization that drafted him, profiles as the ideal destination.
