The New York Jets are catching the Green Bay Packers in a vulnerable position.
Bad injury news continues to flow in for the 0-1 Packers. It has been announced that defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, who is in concussion protocol and also dealing with a knee issue, is out for today’s game.
Edge rusher Lukas Van Ness, who was also in concussion protocol, will play.
Green Bay will be without Hargrave, a skilled veteran pass rusher on the interior, along with running back Josh Jacobs and edge rusher Micah Parsons. The status of offensive linemen Aaron Banks and Zach Bako-Bewele remains up in the air. Both players are listed as questionable but have not been confirmed to be available.
Hargrave, 33, is a critical pass-rush presence for the Packers’ defensive line, especially without Parsons. He was quiet in Week 1, posting no pressures over 20 pass-rush snaps, but in 2025 for the Vikings, Hargrave had 3.5 sacks and 31 total pressures in 16 games. The veteran tends to struggle against the run, but has posted a pass-rush grade of 70.0+ at Pro Football Focus in eight straight seasons.
Green Bay signed Hargrave to a two-year, $23 million contract this offseason, enough to make him the team’s most expensive addition in free agency.
The loss of Hargrave will be crucial for the Packers, who have recorded only seven sacks in five full games without Parsons, including four in four games before Hargrave’s debut last week. Against a Jets offensive line that was dominant in pass protection in Week 1, Green Bay is alarmingly short on pass-rush juice.
The stakes are very high for the Packers today, and injuries have done them no favors, giving the Jets another advantage.
