Initial jersey numbers have been revealed for the New York Jets’ 2022 rookie draft picks
The long wait is over, New York Jets fans: we have our first glimpse at the initial jersey numbers of the team’s seven 2022 draft picks. Keep in mind that these numbers are subject to change. (Does anyone remember Leonard Williams’ No. 62 in 2015?)
Courtesy of the New York Jets’ official Twitter account, here are the initial jersey numbers of the Jets’ 2022 draft class:
- Sauce Gardner: No. 20
- Garrett Wilson: No. 17
- Jermaine Johnson: No. 52
- Breece Hall: No. 35
- Jeremy Ruckert: No. 89
- Max Mitchell: No. 61
- Micheal Clemons: No. 72
Ladies and gentlemen, we have draft pick numbers.
(Also ladies and gentlemen, these numbers are subject to change 😅)

Many Jets fans have clamored for Gardner to sport a single-digit number, similar to the No. 1 he donned at the University of Cincinnati, but those options are limited for Sauce at the moment. The only single-digit number available is No. 4.
Here are all of the single-digit jersey numbers that are currently occupied:
- No. 1: D.J. Reed
- No. 2: Zach Wilson
- No. 3: Tarik Black
- No. 5: Mike White
- No. 6: Jordan Whitehead
- No. 7: Braden Mann
- No. 8: Elijah Moore
- No. 9: Javin White
Tarik Black and Javin White are candidates to be released at some point, so it’s possible that Gardner could eventually make a switch to No. 3 or No. 9 if he prefers a single-digt number as much as many Jets fans do.
Wilson’s collegiate No. 5 is currently owned by Mike White, so he opens his Jets career with the No. 17 jersey. The number was most famously worn in green by Braylon Edwards from 2009 to 2010 (with a cameo in 2012). Recent wearers include Charone Peake and Vyncint Smith.
The Jets are set to begin their rookie minicamp today at the team facility in Florham Park, New Jersey.
