“Another one off the checklist!”, says New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner
It apparently cost Sauce Gardner five figures to retain the number he wore at Cincinnati (although the rookie later refuted that report). Fortunately for the New York Jets‘ first-round pick, he had enough left over to purchase a very special gift.
Gardner took to Instagram to showcase some selfless spending, as the defender purchased a new Mercedes-Benz for his mother Alisa. The Gardners post in front of the new luxury vehicle in a series of photographs, complete with a Bearcat red bow on the hood.

“Another one off the checklist!!! Ma, I appreciate you for raising a great man!” Gardner writes in the accompanying caption. “(T)hank you God for allowing me to make this happen. Love you both.”
Fellow New York first-round picks Garrett Wilson and Jermaine Johnson are among those lauding the move in the comment section. Wilson calls Gardner “Tuff” while his defensive teammate Johnson refers to him as a “stand up guy”.
Gardner was the Jets’ opening pick in their three-freshman showcase on the draft’s opening night, donning green as the fourth overall selection. Though he’ll likely be further lauded for his generous act of kindness toward his mother, he was a desireable type of stingy during the Jets’ minicamp proceedings, earning some crucial takeaways during seven-on-seven and two-minute drills.
Appearing at several New York sporting events as he and his compatriots prepare for training camp, Gardner has draw the right kind of attention from New York brass.
“He doesn’t repeat errors. He’s a guy that is so hungry to learn,” defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich said of his thoughts on Gardner thus far, per notes from the team. “If he gets beat, most of the time he just figures it out on his own because he has such a good football brain, and a thirst for the game and a thirst to get better and learn and grow.”
