Detroit Lions @ Dallas Cowboys
The Detroit Lions enter Week 17 after clinching the NFC North for the first time in 30 years in their win last week. Sitting at 11-4, the Lions still have a slight chance to occupy the top spot in the NFC. After clinching a playoff spot two weeks ago, the Cowboys still have a slim shot at winning their division but would have to win out.
This game seems like it is going to have a lot less scoring than originally thought. The total opened at 53.5 and is already down to 52.5 across most sportsbooks. I think a few reasons are contributing to this. The main reason is the Dallas Cowboys offense right now. In the last two weeks, the Cowboys are only averaging 15 points per game on offense and 267 total yards.
I also anticipate the Lions’ game plan on Saturday night will be to run the ball. The Cowboys have been gashed the last two weeks on the ground and I think that presents a big mismatch for the Lions to exploit. The Lions have a strong offensive line and the running backs to control this game, as they should be able to run all over the Cowboys. This should keep the clock moving and shorten the game which is great for under bettors.
I think this total is too high at this point in the season and I like this game to go under.
The play: Under 52.5
New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The NFC South is one of the few divisions with a lot left to play for in the final two weeks. Three of the four teams in the division are still fighting for the NFC South championship crown. Even if their records don’t show elite teams, it should be an exciting matchup with plenty to play for.
I really like the Saints in this game as I think this is a great sell-high spot on Tampa Bay. After winning four games in a row, the Buccaneers are due for some regression. In their four-game win streak, they beat the Panthers, the Falcons, the Packers, and a Jaguars team led by a hobbled Trevor Lawrence.
The Saints have not been good on offense all year but I think they will be able to move the ball this week in Tampa Bay. The Bucs have allowed the most passing yards in the NFL at 264 per game. New Orleans should look to come out throwing the ball early and often to Chris Olave and even Alvin Kamara.
I anticipate the Saints being ready to play and leaving Tampa Bay with a massive win.
The play: New Orleans Saints +2.5
