After missing the Tennessee Titans’ season opener due to a hip injury, former New York Jets safety Jamal Adams is set to face off against his old team on Sunday.
“I am super excited, man,” Adams said via team reporter Jim Wyatt. “Obviously it’s an opportunity of a lifetime. I don’t take my opportunities lightly. Obviously, I’ve been going through so many injuries over the years, I’m just grateful to be back out there with the guys. Whatever I can do to help, that’s what I’m here for.

“I respect the hell out of the Jets. They drafted me,” Adams continued. “I mean, the Jets [are] tatted on me, man. It’s part of my story. My father was drafted to the Giants, I was drafted to the Jets. My mom is from Yonkers, New York, and I have a lot of family up here. I still have my house there. I am not making it bigger than what it is. I have a lot of respect for everybody over there. I am looking forward to the opportunity.”
Adams was selected by the Jets with the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, quickly emerging as a premier safety. Instead of signing Adams to a second contract in 2020, the Jets elected to deal the LSU product to the Seahawks in exchange for two first-round picks and a third-round pick. Those picks amounted to Alijah Vera-Tucker and Garrett Wilson.
Adams continued his excellent play throughout his first season with the Seahawks. He set the single-season sack record for safeties (9.5) and earned his third consecutive Pro Bowl appearance, prompting the organization to ink Adams to a four-year, $72 million extension.
After signing the contract, Adams struggled to stay healthy, playing in only 22 games over the past three years. This led to the Seahawks releasing him in March.
Adams found a new home in July when the Titans signed him to a one-year deal.
