NY Jets film breakdown: How the defense returned to peak form

The New York Jets have finally returned the favor.

After many years of taking blowout defeats at the hands of the Patriots, the Jets flipped the script with a 24-3 dismantling of their division rivals. Aaron Rodgers looked like Aaron Rodgers, many different receivers made plays, and the Breece Hall-Braelon Allen backfield continues to look intmidating.

While the Rodgers-led offense was stellar, it was the Jets’ defense that ruled the day.

Rediscovering its familiar dominant form, the Jets’ defense did not allow the Patriots’ offense to do anything all night long. New England finished with 139 yards of offense, posting under 80 yards both through the air and on the ground. Before their final garbage time drive, the Patriots had only 93 yards of offense through the first 55:36 of game time.

Total. Domination.

How did the Jets get back to that after a two-game start in which they did not look as sharp as Jets fans are used to seeing them?

That is what we are here to break down in today’s Blewett’s Blitz film breakdown.

The pass rush made a triumphant return. Will McDonald starred once again, getting involved in three sacks. He was one of eight different Jets players who contributed to the Jets’ final total of seven sacks.

However, the Jets’ pass coverage deserves credit, too. Sauce Gardner was back to his lockdown ways after a down game in Week 2. His fellow cornerbacks, D.J. Reed and Michael Carter II, also thrived in coverage after dealing with injuries leading into the game.

To see how the Jets got everything clicking again on defense, we turn to the film.

Other topics broken down include:

  • What does the offensive line look like after three games together?
  • How did Olu Fashanu look in his debut?
  • What’s up with Garrett Wilson?
  • Is Quinnen Williams back?

And much more!
