“I was just down, down bad.”
JID raps these lyrics on the Dreamville-filled collab of the same name, perfectly describing the 2024 New York Jets.
After starting the season with sky-high expectations both inside and outside the organization, the Jets find themselves in the gutter. They have fallen short of almost every goal and expectation that was set for them, whether on offense, defense, or special teams.
As a result, the team sits at 3-7. Their playoff hopes have all but dwindled, and the rest of the season has a chance to go absolutely haywire.
The Jets face the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday in an AFC-based matchup. Can they tighten up and try to fix their season? Or will they stay down bad?
Follow along as we preview the latest game in the 2024 season for the New York Jets!

- Indianapolis Colts (4-6)
- 2024 NFL Week 11

The Week 11 matchup for the Jets has the distinction of being one of the few NFL games to be flexed out of its original timeslot.
Originally a Sunday Night Football matchup on NBC, the Jets and Colts will now commence their showdown at 1 p.m. ET. The game will air on CBS with Andrew Catalon, Tiki Barber, Jason McCourty, and AJ Ross on the call.
In terms of uniforms, the Jets will be wearing their green helmets, green jerseys, and white pants against the Colts this weekend.
Jets vs. Colts Game History
In their long matchup history, the Colts have a decisive advantage over the Jets.
Over 72 historical matchups, Indianapolis has a 44-32 over New York. In their last five matchups, New York is 2-3. The Jets’ last win over the Colts came in 2018, where they won by a score of 42-34.
The past two matchups have not gone New York’s way. They lost 36-7 in 2020 and by a score of 45-30 in 2021.
Jets vs. Colts Betting Odds (FanDuel Sportsbook)
Somehow, Palpatine retu… wait, wrong article. Somehow, the Jets are favored again!
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jets are 3.5-point favorites over the Colts. They are -210 moneyline favorites compared to the Colts, who are +176 underdogs. The over-under at 43.5 points.
There is obviously a reason why the Jets are favored. The sportsbooks evidently think New York has more talent and should be able to find success on both sides of the ball. That is not necessarily incorrect; New York, in theory, should be able to beat most teams on their schedule.
But I truly do not understand how the Jets continue to be favored in these games. The Colts are a team who rely heavily on running the football; the Jets are a team that has struggled immensely at defending the run. Additionally, the Jets are a team who have found ways to lose against any type of opponent, whether it is the lowly Patriots or the elite Minnesota Vikings.
On the other hand, the Colts have competed at a high level in most of their games. For all of their flaws, they have pushed very good teams to the brink and have been competitive for most of this season.
Vegas can continue to favor the Jets, but until they show signs of consistency, I will continue to doubt their odds.
Jets vs. Colts Injury Report
New York Jets
- LB C.J. Mosley, Neck – Out
- OL Jake Hanson, Hamstring – Out
- OL Tyron Smith, Neck – Out
- DL Solomon Thomas, Knee – Questionable
- WR Davante Adams, Wrist/Illness – Questionable
While their injury report is much smaller than in past weeks, the Jets are still down a few key contributors.
Linebacker C.J. Mosley continues to miss time with his neck injury, meaning that Jamien Sherwood will continue to start. Offensive tackle Tyron Smith is out for his first game of the season, as he is dealing with a neck injury. As a result, Olu Fashanu will get his first career start at left tackle.
Davante Adams will play, according to Adam Schefter, but if he is limited in any way on Sunday, one of Xavier Gipson or Malachi Corley will have to step up in his place.
Indianapolis Colts
- OT Bernhard Raimann, Knee – Out
- LB E.J. Speed, Knee – Questionable
Compared to the Jets, the Colts’ injury report is very light.
Indianapolis will be down its starting left tackle, which could open up the pass-rush lanes for edge rushers like Will McDonald or Haason Reddick.
If E.J. Speed cannot play, running backs Breece Hall and Braelon Allen should find even more space than usual against a suspect Colts run defense.
Jets vs. Colts Game Prediction
- Colts defeat the Jets 23-21
Despite some of the matchups in New York’s favor when compared to the Colts, I think the Jets are at a severe disadvantage against the Colts’ rushing attack.
With Anthony Richardson joining Jonathan Taylor again in the backfield, it is likely the Colts will challenge the Jets to stop the run consistently. New York has struggled to do that consistently all season; facing Gigantor and a star running back will not help that area improve.
Additionally, the Colts defense has the potential to give the Jets some problems in their passing game. Specifically, Indianapolis thrives off creating turnovers and has been successful in this avenue.
This could force the Jets to play conservatively with Rodgers at the helm. If he senses danger, he will likely opt to play slow and methodical, which could grind the offense to a screeching halt.
To put it simply, I feel that the Colts are a rough matchup for the Jets stylistically. I also do not trust the Jets to handle adversity well in any game for the remainder of the season.
As a result, give me the Colts by a score of 23-21.
