According to New York Jets standout wide receiver Garrett Wilson, if quarterback Aaron Rodgers returned to the team next season, he would view it as a “cherry on top.”
Appearing on FanDuel TV’s “Up and Adams” with host Kay Adams, Wilson addressed Rodgers’ uncertain future with the team.
“I’ve really valued getting to know Aaron over the past two years,” Wilson said on Wednesday. “The way I approached this season coming into it was this was our one chance to go and get it, and anything on top of that is like a cherry on top if he decides to come back next season.
“Obviously, the season hasn’t gone as expected, and I wanted it to go, but with that said, it has still been a blessing, and it has still been something I value for the rest of my life. Either way, I am fulfilled, even though we haven’t won. I just want Aaron to do what is best for him, and we will all support him.”
Wilson also addressed the idea of the Jets playing for “pride” at this point in the season, as the team sits with an ugly 3-8 record with six games remaining.
“I always play for pride,” Wilson said. “Whenever you are a competitor and take this thing as seriously as most of us do, no matter what our record is 10-0 or 0-10, we are always going to go out and play for pride. To think we are going to go out there and lay an egg because our playoff hopes aren’t as strong as they once were at the start of the season is just not realistic, and that is not the way any of us are wired.”
While there will most likely be many moving parts within the organization during the offseason, Wilson’s message made it clear that the team will always play hard, no matter the record, and is focused on the present.
Coming off a bye week, the team hosts former New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith and the 6-5 Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
The team hopes the bye week delivered a much-needed jolt of energy as Gang Green looks to snap a two-game losing streak and give fans something to cheer for.
