Quarterback Justin Fields has chosen his jersey number in 2025 while introducing himself to New York Jets fans.

Three NFL teams. Three different jersey numbers.

Sometimes, that’s just how it goes for a professional football player. Included in that group is New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields.

On Friday, Fields revealed that, according to the organization’s official website and X account, he will wear No. 7 with the Jets in 2025.

Fields, 26, signed a 2-year, $40 million deal (with $30 million guaranteed) with the Jets on the first day of free agency this past Monday. The Ohio State product has yet to wholly cement himself as a starting-caliber quarterback in the league, but Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey are going all-in on the athletic youngster.

Fields donned No. 1 with the Buckeyes and carried that number into Chicago after being drafted in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft by the Bears.

Unfortunately, he could not wear No. 1 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Interestingly, the number is unofficially retired for kicker kicker Gary Anderson, despite nothing officially existing on the books.

Fields cannot wear number one in New Jersey for an obvious reason: A man the kids call Sauce already owns it. Since Sauce Gardner isn’t straying from No. 1, Fields had a decision to make.

Apparently, his decision came down to No. 7, 4, or 16, but the number that other Jets quarterbacks, such as Ken O’Brien and Boomer Esiason, sported is the one the team’s new signal-caller selected. So, Fields has gone from No. 1 to 2 to 7.

The most recent Jets player to wear No. 7 is EDGE defender Haason Reddick, who is now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As is usual in modern tradition, Fields also posted a quick social media video introducing himself to his new fanbase.

“What’s up, Jets nation? Justin Fields here. (I’m) excited to be here, excited to work, and it’s going to be a fun year this year. Go Jets.”
