The New York Jets made three waiver claims following final roster cutdowns around the NFL. Two of those came from the three-time defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs, including rookie offensive tackle Esa Pole.
Fans and media members in Kansas City were surprised to see the rookie tackle released by the Chiefs. When the Jets picked him up, it was seen as a coup by many.
A former community college player who is only two years removed from his FBS debut with Washington State, Pole quickly progressed in Pullman, playing his way to signing with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2025.
Across three preseason games, Pole looked strong at left tackle for Kansas City, allowing no pressures and committing no penalties. A long and bulky blocker at 6-foot-7 and 319 pounds, Pole offers interesting potential as his game continues to trend upward.
Is Pole a quality developmental tackle for the Jets? How far removed is he from being considered a reliable backup tackle?
In the latest episode of Blewett’s Blitz, we unpack Pole’s All-22 film to understand what he brings to the table.
Seen below is the full Esa Pole scouting report (strengths and weaknesses) and film review.
