Many failed New York Jets draft picks have found success elsewhere.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been recent beneficiaries of that reality. Their signing of former Jets first-round offensive lineman Mekhi Becton helped push them to a Super Bowl victory in 2024.

Philly is hoping for a similar result with another former Jet, this time a wide receiver.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, former Jets wideout Elijah Moore has signed a one-year free agent deal with the Birds.

A second-round pick in 2021, Moore had a quick two-year run with Gang Green. In 27 games as a Jet, Moore caught 80 passes for 984 yards and six touchdowns.

After demanding a trade midway through the 2022 season, Moore got his wish in the offseason, when the Jets shipped him and a third-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for a second-round pick (a selection later used in the Aaron Rodgers trade). Moore spent two seasons with the Browns before joining the Buffalo Bills in 2025.

Can Moore salvage his career in the City of Brotherly Love? There’s reason to suspect that he won’t, but the Eagles are willing to roll the dice.

Former Jets find new homes

Moore isn’t the only 2021 Jets draft pick to find a new home this week. Former second-overall pick Zach Wilson signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints to compete for their backup quarterback role.

Much like Moore, Wilson walked into the Jets facility with high hopes and expectations, only to never come close to meeting them. Both players have failed with other teams as well.

In Philadelphia, though, Moore’s arrival could be motivated by reasons beyond his play.

The Eagles seem comfortable putting A.J. Brown back on the field despite rumors that he has requested a trade. Notably, Moore was Brown’s teammate and roommate at Ole Miss. Philadelphia bringing in a close friend of Brown’s could be seen as an olive branch to keep him in line for 2026 and beyond.

Jets fans know well, though, that Moore isn’t much of a leader on his own.

Back in 2022, while the Jets were on a three-game winning streak, Moore requested a trade from the team because then-rookie Garrett Wilson had become the team’s top receiver, taking valuable targets from the second-year man.

Now, he’s about to be on his fourth team in five years.

Will Moore become a quality receiver who makes the Jets, Browns, and Bills jealous they weren’t able to get the best out of him? Unlikely.

But he’ll try to become the next former Jet to carve out a role after joining a more stable organization. Philadelphia is hoping he can broker a peace with their star as well.
