Both players have been dealing with hamstring injuries—the soft-tissue issue so many Jets have experienced this season.
McGovern injured it during the 31-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, while Berrios’s issue sort of popped up sometime during the week.
In McGovern’s absence at practice this past week, veteran Josh Andrews held down the center position. Head coach Adam Gase did mention that McGovern tried to “weasel” his way into practicing Wednesday, but was unsuccessful. On Friday, he took part in a limited fashion (positionals).
As it stands right now, McGovern should be labeled as an “emergency backup,” but that shouldn’t stop the Jets from inserting the man in the event of a poor start upfront.
The same story follows Berrios, who also practiced on a limited basis Friday. His presence may even be a bigger story than McGovern’s, however, due to the Jets’ complete lack of wide receivers. Only four receivers are dressed for the Colts game—the same number of quarterbacks on the roster.
New York’s inactives include James Morgan, Joe Flacco and five injured players who were declared out on Friday’s injury report: Ashtyn Davis, George Fant, Jamison Crowder, Breshad Perriman and Quincy Wilson.
The 0-2 Jets ready themselves to kick-off against the 1-1 Colts from Indy at 4:05 p.m. ET, televised on CBS.
