Quinnen Williams became one of the final additions to join a star-studded fishing tournament on April 15.
While some NFL players enjoy a round of golf in the offseason, New York Jets DT Quinnen Williams will find himself partaking in a single-day fishing competition. Williams and potential Jets trade target DeAndre Hopkins became the last additions to “The Catch, presented by Fritos”.
“The Catch” is a single-day tournament that takes place in Miami, Florida on April 15. It will be broadcasted live on CBS.
After having the best season of his career, Williams is looking to cool off by the water and showcase his angling skills.
“I can’t wait to show off my fishing game on ‘The Catch,'” said Williams when talking to CBS Sports. “I enjoy fishing, watched some of the SFC events on TV last year, and I’m excited to partner with the best SFC anglers and compete against other NFL players.”
The competition will see players split into two teams, with Chargers QB Justin Herbert and Chiefs DT Chandler Jones as captains for the event.
The event will also raise awareness for the Coast Guard Foundation – a non-profit organization that supports active U.S. Coast Guard members, veterans and their families.
“The Catch” should be an exciting opportunity to promote fishing as a sport with some of the biggest names in sports. SFC CEO and Commissioner Mark Neifield knows as much.
“It’s a massive moment for our sport,” said Mark Neifeld in a press release. “Competitive saltwater fishing live on CBS on consecutive Saturdays following the NCAA Final Four and The Masters – this was unthinkable only a year ago. Our talented athletes earned this platform alongside other sporting greats.”
Other notable NFL players partaking in the event include Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill, Vikings RB Dalvin Cook, Eagles WR A.J. Brown, and Patriots LB Matthew Judon.
