Despite early season struggles, the New York Jets do not plan to fire offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that despite the Jets’ offensive struggles, the team does not plan to remove Hackett after firing head coach Robert Saleh.
It’s my understanding that the Jets do not plan on firing OC Nathaniel Hackett.

However, SNY’s Connor Hughes alluded to the fact that more changes may be coming for the Jets in the coming days and weeks.
“Jets staffers I have touched base with are unsure if additional changes are coming, potentially to the offensive side of the ball. As one put it to me: “Everything feels like it’s up in the air.”

While Saleh’s firing is extremely warranted when looking at his entire Jets’ tenure and the start to the 2024 season, other changes to the coaching staff should be considered.
The Hackett-led offense has struggled for the majority of the 2024 season. Besides the struggles to score points, the team has repeatedly struggled with personnel usage and play selection. They have lacked creativity and the ability to sustain drives.
Things go beyond just Hackett, though. Specifically, the offensive line has looked dysfunctional under coach Keith Carter. It is the second straight year that the unit has shown an utter lack of communication and cohesion.
It is good if the Jets want to be proactive to save their season. They are in an all-in season and need to win football games quickly.
Yet, firing only the head coach is a half-measure. Other changes and tweaks need to be made to the coaching staff and how things are handled with the team. Otherwise, nothing may change despite a switch at the top.
