Hours ahead of their 14th game of the 2024 regular season, the New York Jets’ search for a new general manager has officially begun.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets have tabbed their first two targets for general manager interviews, which will begin this week: Jon Robinson and Louis Riddick. Schefter added that there will be other candidates and the Jets plan to announce them after each interview is completed.
According to Schefter, Robinson’s interview “is expected this week,” while Riddick’s will come “at a later date.” Additionally, while it is noteworthy that New York has begun its general manager interviews in mid-December, Schefter says the Jets “are not married to hiring a GM first and a head coach second,” and that it “just happens” that the GM interviews are starting first.
Robinson, 48, spent seven seasons as the Tennessee Titans’ general manager from 2016-22. The Titans compiled a 66-48 record over his tenure, posting a winning record in each of his first six seasons. They won two AFC South titles, made four playoff appearances, and went 3-4 in the playoffs, including a run to the AFC championship in 2019.
Before coming to Tennessee, Robinson spent three seasons (2013-15) as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ director of player personnel. Prior to that, he began his NFL career with 11 seasons (2002-12) in various college scouting roles for the New England Patriots, culminating with four seasons as their director of college scouting.
Riddick, 55, is currently working as an analyst at ESPN. He has 13 seasons of experience in NFL front offices, although he has not worked in the league since 2013, when he was the Philadelphia Eagles’ director of pro personnel. Riddick spent four years in that role for Philadelphia, preceded by roles as the Eagles’ assistant director of pro personnel (2009) and a pro scout (2008). Before that, he spent seven seasons with the Washington Redskins, serving as a pro scout (2001-04) and director of pro personnel (2005-07).
The Jets’ search for a general manager and head coach is being led by The 33rd Team, spearheaded by former NFL general managers Rick Spielman and Mike Tannenbaum.
