With the 2025 NFL draft fast approaching, the New York Jets continue their pre-draft meetings and interviews with prospects.
According to KRPC2’s Aaron Wilson, the Jets have interviewed Carolina Tar Heels cornerback Alijah Huzzie.
Hailing from Heard County High School in Franklin, GA, Huzzie initially committed to Eastern Tennessee State, spending his four college seasons as a Buccaneer. While there, the youngster appeared in 34 total games, posting 179 total tackles, 30 pass deflections, and 12 interceptions.
The Georgia native then transferred to North Carolina, spending his final two seasons of NCAA eligibility as a Tar Heel. During the 2023 season, Huzzie appeared in 11 games, logging 42 total tackles (1 for loss), 3 interceptions, and 6 passes defended.
In 2024, the cornerback recorded 40 total tackles (6 for loss), 1 interception, 8 pass deflections, and 2 sacks.
After inking Brandon Stephans to a 3-year contract worth up to $36 million with $23 million guaranteed in free agency, ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed it is unlikely the Jets will use a high draft pick on a cornerback. However, the team could certainly still look to add depth at the position in one of the later rounds of the draft, and Huzzie could provide that for the Jets.
At 5-foot-10 and 193 pounds, Huzzie is known for his quickness and ball-hawking ability, totaling 16 interceptions over his college career, while ranking No. 236 overall on Mock Draft Database’s consensus big board.
Huzzie could be a late-round flier for New York, offering much-needed depth in the secondary as a slot cornerback.
