Perhaps Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey are honing in on their preferred target with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the Jets have done “extensive homework” on Penn State tight end Tyler Warren, per league sources.
This adds to the growing buzz that Warren is the Jets’ preferred draft prospect. A March report indicated that New York is one of three teams that Warren is “focusing” on showcasing himself to, while another report earlier in the month indicated that the Jets are “infatuated” with the tight end prospect.
After five years at Penn State, Warren enters the 2025 NFL draft with upside as both a receiving threat and blocker. The 22-year-old redshirted his first year in 2020 before becoming a steady presence in the Nittany Lions’ offense. Over 56 career games, Warren totaled 159 receptions for 1,839 yards and 19 touchdowns.
His senior season in 2024 marked a leap to superstardom, as Warren hauled in 104 passes for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns. He finished second among all tight ends in missed tackles forced (19) and ranked third in contested catches (13), showcasing his elusiveness after the catch and ability to win in tight coverage.
Despite showing promise as a blocker in college, Jets X-Factor’s Joe Blewett believes that his technique will need refinement at the next level. However, Blewett praises Warren’s effort as a blocker, believing he has the “want-to” that is necessary to perfect his blocking at the NFL level.
With Tyler Conklin and Kenny Yeboah both walking in free agency, tight end has become a glaring need for the Jets. The current group – Jeremy Ruckert, Zack Kuntz, Neal Johnson, and free-agent addition Stone Smartt – combined for under 650 receiving yards over the past three seasons, which is highly troubling.
Given the team’s lack of proven depth at the position, Warren could undoubtedly be the pick for first-year general manager Darren Mougey at No. 7.
