The New York Jets are officially adding to their kicking competition ahead of the 2025 season.
According to Draft Diamonds, the Jets have signed UFL kicker Harrison Mevis.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini confirmed the news.
2025 Jets first-round pick Armand Membou shared his reaction to New York signing his former college teammate in a post on X.
Mevis, nicknamed the “Thiccer Kicker” for his 6-foot, 242-pound build, signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL draft, but was released prior to the regular season. He only appeared in one preseason game, making his lone field goal attempt from 41 yards.
Mevis later found success in the UFL during the 2025 season, where he served as the placekicker for the Birmingham Stallions. In 10 games with the Stallions, Mevis converted 95.2% of his field goal attempts (20 for 21), including a long of 54 yards.
The 23-year-old’s college resume was just as impressive. Over four seasons at Missouri, he appeared in 50 games and connected on 84% of his field goals, with a career-long 61-yarder, an SEC record. He was nearly perfect on extra points at 99.3%.
The Jets worked out Mevis last week alongside fellow UFL kicker Rodrigo Blankenship. Clearly, the organization was impressed enough to sign the Missouri product ahead of training camp.
Mevis is expected to be firmly in the mix for the Jets’ starting kicker job this summer, competing with Anders Carlson and undrafted rookie Caden Davis.
Speaking to the media at New York’s mandatory minicamp, special teams coordinator Chris Banjo outlined what he values most in a placekicker.
“I would just say consistency,” said Banjo. “That’s the biggest thing, consistency, and how guys respond to tough situations or situations that may not have went their way.”
The “Thiccer Kicker” now gets his shot to show he can bring consistency to New York’s special teams unit.
