The New York Jets have joined the pre-trade deadline frenzy around the NFL.

On Wednesday, six days ahead of the November 4 deadline, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Jets have traded 26-year-old slot cornerback Michael Carter II to the Philadelphia Eagles. New York will swap a 2027 seventh-round pick for a 2027 sixth-round pick, while Philadelphia will also send over wide receiver John Metchie.

Carter, 26, signed a three-year, $30.75 million contract extension with the Jets ahead of the 2024 season. His production declined over the next season-and-a-half as he battled various injuries.

After the recent emergence of Jarvis Brownlee, who took Carter’s slot role after being acquired from the Tennessee Titans, Carter became expendable for the Jets. New York will move forward with the 24-year-old Brownlee as the starting slot corner.

A 2024 seventh-round pick of the Titans, the Jets acquired Brownlee during the season by swapping a 2026 sixth-round pick for a 2026 seventh-round pick. Brownlee is under contract through 2027.

Along with moving up one round on the third day of the 2027 draft, the Jets also acquired former Houston Texans second-round pick John Metchie in the Carter trade.

Chosen 44th overall in the 2022 draft, Metchie sat out his rookie season after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia. Upon returning in the 2023 season, Metchie played 29 games for the Texans across two seasons, catching 40 passes for 412 yards and one touchdown.

In August 2025, Houston traded Metchie and a 2026 sixth-round pick to Philadelphia for Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round pick. Metchie played in seven games for the Eagles, catching all four of his targets for 18 yards. He also played 30 snaps on special teams.
