The New York Jets’ offensive line room for the 2026 season is taking shape.
After general manager Darren Mougey filled the team’s hole at left guard by signing former Las Vegas Raiders starter Dylan Parham, New York announced that they have re-signed backup interior lineman Xavier Newman.
Newman, 26, signed with the Tennessee Titans in 2022 as an undrafted free agent from Baylor.
He spent two seasons with the Titans, appearing in four games (one start), before being released and landing in New York.
Since signing with Gang Green, Newman has appeared in 21 games for the team while starting four. In 2025, he played just 31 total snaps, while earning an uninspiring 46.0 overall grade from Pro Football Focus and an atrocious 28.5 pass-blocking grade.
After re-signing Newman, the Jets currently have five backup linemen under contract for the 2026 season: center Gus Hartwig, guard/tackle Kohl Levao, guard Marquis Hayes, and tackle Max Mitchell, whom the team re-signed on Wednesday.
Despite their two re-signings this week, the Jets should still be looking to upgrade their depth across the line.
Mitchell and Newman have been far too inconsistent to be counted on as primary backups. Hayes, Hartwig, and Levao have yet to appear in a regular-season game in their careers.
To bolster their OL depth, Gang Green could look to Day 2 or 3 of the NFL draft, scour the remaining free agent options, or both.
