The Bourne Trickery
The bough has finally broken for the Jets defense—a unit held together by the flimsy tape of draft weekend Saturday additions allowed points on each of its first four Sunday possessions, three of which ended in touchdowns New England is earning nearly eight yards a play and the formerly fearsome pass rush has been non-existent.
The Patriots were merciless in their attack, using trick plays to continue and end scoring drives For example, one form of trickery was a 25-yard Kendrick Bourne touchdown pass to Nelson Agholor.

The White Stuff
With the eyes of an eternally beleaguered fanbase on him, Mike White, a fifth-round pick seeing his first NFL action did what he could to stem the bleeding. White is perhaps the unofficial owner of the best passer rating in Jets history after completing all four of his passes for 37 yards, the first of which was a six-year tally to Corey Davis that briefly narrowed the Jets’ gap.
New York management has been criticized for its refusal to add a veteran backup to the active roster, but White vindicated the Jets’ faith in him to provide stability, if only for a short while, in the face of disaster.
The Bye Continues
White’s scoring strike was good for only the second Jets’ first-half touchdown of the season, while they allowed three of their own. They did what they could to establish some traction through their running backs, Ty Johnson and Michael Carter.
The latter established some manageable second and third downs, but their 12-play, 45-yard drive in the early stages of the second quarter ended in a missed Matt Ammendola field goal.
