New York Jets training camp is underway
The New York Jets‘ first training camp practice is in the books, which means it’s time to overreact to every tidbit of news that emerges from Florham Park.
One of the most notable takeaways from the Jets’ first camp practice was the makeup of the offensive line in front of Aaron Rodgers.
Projected starting left tackle Duane Brown was not spotted on the field at practice (per Robert Saleh, Brown took a personal day). Mekhi Becton and Billy Turner rotated in and out at left tackle. Max Mitchell lined up at the right tackle spot.
The offensive line can be seen in the video below, this time with Turner at left tackle.

Becton was reportedly beaten by Bryce Huff for a would-be quick sack on Wilson, although pass-rush battles should be taken with a grain of salt before the pads come on. Without pads, the defensive linemen have a significant advantage.
Bryce Huff would’ve had a (very quick) sack against Zach Wilson on a pass to Bam Knight. Got around Becton. #Jets

Becton was wearing a brace on his right knee. He appeared to be in good shape, and the new dad has also added a “Sr.” to the back of his jersey.
And it’s off and running.

It’s also worth noting that Connor McGovern received first-team reps at center over Joe Tippmann. This is to be expected, as the Jets likely want their rookie second-round pick to earn the starting job rather than hand it to him, but it’s something to keep in mind. The talented rookie from Wisconsin will have to earn his spot in the starting lineup.
