At long last, the Haason Reddick saga is over.
On Sunday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the New York Jets and the star edge rusher agreed to an adjusted contract. Reddick will reportedly report to the Jets on Monday and, according to his new agent Drew Rosenhaus, “will continue to work on a long term extension” with the team.
Additionally, the Jets waived over $12 million in fines for Reddick due to his reporting to the team. Owner Woody Johnson was also said to have been “very involved” in working out the deal with Reddick and had no intention of moving the edge rusher.
Reddick reporting is a great development for the Jets at this point of the season.
Would it have been much better for Reddick to report earlier in the season? Yes. However, the Jets badly need edge rusher help and pass-rushing help. They need a consistent presence at that position alongside Will McDonald, especially without Jermaine Johnson in the fold.
At his best, Reddick is a force rushing the passer. He can single-handedly wreck games and cause havoc in opposing teams’ backfields. Alongside a player like McDonald, Reddick can create an upper-level pass-rushing duo.
Reddick and the Jets did not handle the situation well for most of the offseason. But with the edge rusher back in the fold, Reddick can help make everyone forget about the issues with some great pass-rushing production.
