Quincy Williams has put it all together for the New York Jets, as shown by his film
Quincy Williams was cast aside by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Just two years after the Jaguars made him a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft, Williams was waived as part of final roster cutdowns ahead of his third NFL season.
The New York Jets quickly pounced on Williams, and before long, injuries at linebacker forced Williams into a key role for the Jets. Williams played 16 games in 2021, starting 13 of them.
In his first season as a Jet, Williams excited fans with occasional flashes of the talent that made him a third-round pick. However, Williams still appeared raw. For each highlight play he made, Williams gave back a couple of whiffs.
Williams showed tremendous improvement in 2022, reducing his missed tackles and becoming a key cog in the Jets’ defensive breakout. His performance in 2022 earned him a three-year, $18 million contract in the 2023 offseason.
In his third year as a Jet, Williams found another level to tap into. He became as disruptive as ever, consistently making game-changing plays in both the run and pass games. Williams’ performance earned him first-team All-Pro honors. He has developed into one of the best players on the team, and at $6 million per year, he may be the team’s best-value contract as well.
So… how did he do it? How has Williams grown from a cast-off third-round pick to a first-team All-Pro?
That is what we are here to find out in today’s episode of Blewett’s Blitz. We break down 49 plays from Williams’ 2023 season, highlighting the fundamental and technical aspects of his game that have allowed him to maximize his athletic tools and become a star.
